This Year Discover Two Exciting Programs
at the Center for History
The programs below can be tailored to any
scout level and coincide with the anniversary celebrations of the Civil
War and Girl Scouts.
Heroines of the Civil War 1861-1865
During America’s Civil War women took on many jobs to help the soldiers
and aid the struggle between the North and the South. Women during the
1800s were not allowed to vote and numerous individuals thought a woman’s
place was in the home. For many this battle between the States forced
women to manage everything at home from chopping wood to farming along
with caring for their children. Countless women stepped on to the battlefield
as nurses, soldiers and even spies. Scouts will discover the bravery,
determination, and hardships of these women during this era as they perform
scenarios from the lives of these courageous ladies.
Min: 10 $6 per scout
One Woman’s Vision for Young
Girls
Scouts will be transported back to 1860 when Juliette Low was born and
travel through time to explore the beginning of an organization for girls.
A costumed interpreter will share fascinating stories of Juliette Low’s
life as a child, living in England, and her clever way of getting people
to offer their assistance. Discover how Juliette got her nickname, Daisy
and how the idea of girl scouting began. See clothing from Juliette’s
era and a vintage Girl Scout uniform.
Min: 10 $6 per scout
