NO RIGHTS! The Injustices of Slavery

A Powerful Lesson In America’s Past

From February through May 16th, visitors to the Center for History will take a unique journey. They will visit a recreated slave cabin and Underground Students feel the weight of a slave collar.Railroad stop, experience the cramped space on a slave ship and feel the weight of a slave collar. The award-winning program NO RIGHTS! The Injustices of Slavery offers an opportunity to gain knowledge and understanding of a part of our history that should never be repeated.

Visitors will come to realize the hardships endured by the enslaved in a provocative program that takes them through five interactive learning stations. Each station addresses a different topic: capture in Africa and passage to America; control through ownership and law; true escape stories; life on the plantation; and abolition and the Underground Railroad. First and third person interpretations take the audience into the moment, giving them the opportunity to feel the dread, despair and desperation experienced by the enslaved at one of the America’s darkest hours.Students learn about passage aboard slave ships.

This engaging program will be experienced by over 3,000 school children.
