A Powerful Lesson In America’s Past From February through May 16th,
visitors to the Center for History will take a unique journey.
They will visit a recreated slave cabin and Underground Visitors will come to realize the hardships
endured by the enslaved in a provocative program that takes them through
five interactive learning stations. Each station addresses a different
topic: capture in Africa and passage to America; control through ownership
and law; true escape stories; life on the plantation; and abolition and
the Underground Railroad. First and third person interpretations take
the audience into the moment, giving them the opportunity to feel the
dread, despair and desperation experienced by the enslaved at one of the
America’s darkest hours. Reservations are recommended. Admission is free for members and $5 for adults and children 5 and older. Group tours require reservations and can be scheduled from February through May 16th. The History Center is located at 606 N Main Street in Wheaton. For reservations call (630) 682-9472 or email info@wheatonhistory.com.
*Public tours typically last between one hour and one and a half hours.
